    Fruit flies like a banana
So.. I really should update this thing more often. I have had my new job for over 3 months now, we've been in our new place for 3 months, and I have had my new car 3 months. Can't really say much has changed. On the whole, I would say things are better.
Getting out of the inlaws was like christmas in October. Not that I'm not grateful for them opening up their home to us, but man, I never want to do that ever again. EVER. I would seriously rather live at the YMCA or some other shelter.
Long term. I seriously still have no clue where my life is really headed. I enjoy my current job. It is probably the best job I have ever had. I enjoy what I do, I enjoy my coworkers, and it doesnt pay too bad. Pittsburgh isn't a terrible place to live, I just really miss my friends and family. You honestly don't even know how big a part of your life those people are until you aren't able to hang out with them or even talk to them on a regular basis. I really miss bugging my comerades during their smoke breaks and discussing meaningless goings on. I miss curry and poker. I miss Magic and Chili.
It snowed here last weekend and got pretty cold. I don't really mind the cold although it makes getting out of bed even more difficult. I told one of my clients who is in FL who has never seen snow that I would fed-ex him some one day. He seemed happy with that.
I have kinda been in a funk lately. A lot of heavy decisions bouncing around in my balding head. Regreting not being able to go down to GA to see my family for thxgiving or xmas really bugs me. I miss them a lot. Even the family I don't like I wouldn't mind seeing. I'm kinda tired of making plans for the future. It seems something will inevitably disrupt them. I guess the best you can do is have a general idea of what direction to go and follow it the best you can. Man I surely didn't see myself here five years ago. Not really sure where I saw myself, but it wasn't Pittsburgh. Don't get me wrong, I don't regret it. Barring the absence of friends, Pittsburgh is a whole lot better than Valdosta. At least there are restaurants and entertainment here. But then again, getting friends together and getting drunk and having bizzare philisophical discussions is entertaining in and of itself.
So what is the purpose behind this post. I guess it to let you all know that im still around. To try to pursuade all of you to come visit me sometime. Heck, maybe even to try to convince all of you to come up here and get jobs. Not really sure I even had a reason.
    Ciao for now,
    CP

You can't run from the E-Law-Ntra
So, I bought a new car. An '06 Hyundai Elantra GT hatchback. In "Sterling" silver. Sounds impressive anyway. It seems to be a really good little car. Of course I wish it had a little more power, but its still fun to drive and has a pretty nice Kenwood cd/mp3/wma stereo in it.

Overall, the buying experience was much less painful that the previous 2 cars I have purchased. Did a lot of the stuff online. Requested a quote. Then the salesman, who was really good about everything, called me up and say.. what color and come drive one. So I went and drove one and he gave me some preliminary numbers and said,"If you are interested, its easier and quicker to do the credit application on our website". So I did. He called me the next day with the credit offers. When I told him which on I wanted to go with, he said, "ok I will get the car ready. Be here about 7 to sign papers and pick it up." And that was that. Total time spent at the dealership, about 1:15. Much better than the 4 and 5 hours on the previous cars.

so.. here are some pics. for the full versions go here

    Workin in the coal mines
So I start my new job on Tuesday. I am really looking forward to it. It is a small company that primarily does network design consulting and support. I also get to work form home a couple days a week which is nice. All in all, things are on the up and up.

Also, we get to move out of the inlaws this coming week. We found a nice duplex and the landlords are this young couple and seem pretty cool. This also mean I will get to get my other dog. I miss the coodaroo.

If I fight for you, do I get to kill the Anglish?
So, following the wife's lead,(Actually I had my appointment setup before she got hers done) I received my first tattoo today. Did it hurt? Yes, but not terribly, just more of a general uncomfortable feeling interspersed with a few moments of pain.
    Anyway.. here ya go:

    I told you so...
So I come back to work today to find out that the IT datacenter melted. Apparently the airconditioner failed and it fried our main SAN array. Kinda funny in my opinion, cause now they have to fly out someone to fix it. Probably going to spend 10 grand to do so. When I worked for IT and they were originally speccing equipment for the datacenter, I and several others suggested that they put in management modules in teh UPS systems in the datacenter.. These modules are only about 200 bux and would have been configured to automatically shut down everything if a threshold had been reached as well as send out a trap so someone could have been paged. Good thing they listen to me and the other people that suggested it.. I see it paid off for them.

I hate it for the technicians though.. It always seems that no matter how thoroughly the technicians think things trhough and get things planned, something happens along the way that compromised the integrity of the systems. Project cuts, insufficient funding, etc. Details carefully thought out by the technicians and designers are second guessed and dismissed by management. Maintenance contracts dropped or done on the cheap, only to have something go wrong that would have been covered. Parts not ordered because their worth is questioned.

Anyway, Just a rant on the general condition between managers and technicians.

To the IT guys. Good luck.

    Dumb Crook News at VSU
Student Brings in their computer to be serviced because the wireless doesnt work. Although this person clearly knows nothing about computers, this is a very nice laptop. Athlon64 w/ 1gb Ram. Radeon 9600 pro. 17in display. Even had a very nice Wenger Bag and an Ultra Accesory kit with every kind of bluetooh, firewire and usb connector known to man.
Making conversation the technician asked where she aquired the laptop. She said, Oh, a friend gave it to me. Hmm.. thats a very nice friend. Inspecting the running processes for spyware, the technician notices the owner of the processes is a "Greg S.". Who is Greg the technician asked. Oh, Thats my friend.
The student leave the laptop for the technician to finish working on. The technician contacts me about this. It being most odd, I decide to investigate. Left in the mydocuments folder or efaxes for Mr S'. who works for a company in Toronto Canada.
We decide to call this company whos phone number is on the efax. Greg Is out of the office on business in california. When we asked the cooworker if Mr S. had had anything stolen recently, Why yes, his laptop and other items were stolen from his hotel room in columbus GA while at a job.
    BUSTED.
As a note, There was a newer document in the my documents folder entitled dope.xls This file contained names, dates and amounts owed for drug sales. GG DumbAss

When in the Course of Human Events...
The comes a time in a person's life when the shackles of servitude must be broken. A time when a soul must be freed from its bindings in order become what it was destined to become.
Long have I toiled in my service and in my mind for the clarity and purpose that I desire. Long have I debated what path to take and what may lie ahead.
Some say I should cut my losses. I say what have I lost? Some say tough it out. I say what is a fight without purpose.. without a goal?
Ironically, to make a decision, you have to decide to make the decision. Deciding is a never-ending process. One that I despise with a passion. So, The decision has been made not to decide, at least as far as destiny, fate, etc is concerned. So what does this mean? Where do I go from here? Only up. Only down. Only every way that I choose to go. Everywhere that my heart, faith, and fate leads me.
Cast off the shackles. No longer am I bound. I moving on.. moving up.. moving forward.
I know my course may upset others, that it may change their perception of me. Even so, I must be who I am to be. None other.
So, I bid farewell to the path I knew even tho many of my companions will be the same. I invite them to journey with me.
The day is new. The dawn presents itself. All we must do is let the day take us where it will and do what we know to be right in our hearts.

    Best Buy Blue Balls...
Yay.. we went to the New Best Buy in valdosta.. What a crock of horse hockey.
OK, so we got a new Best Buy about a month or so ago.. I hadnt been yet because I didn't have the money to spend on anything in best buy. So, leadbox and I are out an about doing some early xmas shopping and decide, what the hay, we will go to best buy and window show.
I have NEVER seen such a poor excuse for a Best Buy. I mean, I have seen convenience stores that were bigger. I realize this is valdosta we are talking about, but this best buy didnt even try to have an appliance section. And you know how at the good best buys there are rooms you go into to listen to the surround sound systems, or the car stereo stuff?.. no such luck here. The aisles were terribly small, the product selection mediocre. the staff incompetent.
I used to be bitter that they did not hire me to work computer support on the weekend, no longer, I am actually rather grateful now.. at least epople wont come up to me and say, "haha, you work at the crappy best buy".

    Spacey
Not sure on what all I invaded or exactly how spacey I am, but the characteristics seem to fit.

What Video Game Character Are You? I am a Space-invader.I am a Space-invader.

I will happily recruit the help of friends to aid me in getting what I want. I have no tolerance for people getting in my way, and I am completely relentless until any threats or opposition are removed. I try to be down-to-earth, but something always seems to get in the way. Balance?.. we don't need no stinking balance!!!!
I do find it oddly funny that I am responsible for spending hundreds of thousands of dollars of students and taxpayers money, when I myself have a very difficult time balancing my own checkbook. Today I formalized my proposal to spen no less than $344,000 of student money. Thats a big chunk of change. And what for you may ask? Why so I can futher tighten my grip on those that would be my users. Nay to the kazaa!!! Nay to the Bearshare!!!.. I am the network god!! Bow before my awesome bandwidth throttling abilities.

On a lighter note.. new spyware record today.. 1069 instances on a single machine. Arent users grand!!
